The fifth season of “Stranger Things” is set to premiere later this month, stirring curiosity about the relationships among its cast members, who have spent years growing up together on screen.
In 2023, Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike Wheeler, addressed the nature of the cast’s friendship in an interview with GQ. He noted that they aren’t in constant contact, offering a practical comparison.
“We’re not on everyday-text vibes in any way,” Wolfhard said. “Do you text your cousins every day? They’re our family. We’ll talk on each other’s birthdays. But if I ever needed anything, they’re there.”
Now 22, Wolfhard also joked that Winona Ryder, who plays Joyce Byers, is “one of the funniest texters ever, because she’ll text you and then you’ll text her back and she never replies again.”
In an August 2024 interview with Esquire, Ryder surprised some fans by omitting Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) when naming her favorite co-stars.
“I love the boys and I love Sadie [Sink] and Maya [Hawke],” she said.
Viewers also noted her remarks about younger colleagues appearing disinterested in film.
“I don’t mean to sound so hopeless. There are a few that are just not interested in movies. Like, the first thing they say is, ‘How long is it?’”
Some interpreted this as a reference to Brown, who admitted earlier in 2024 to the U.S. Sun that she struggles to sit through full-length films.
Author’s summary: As “Stranger Things” approaches its final season, glimpses of cast dynamics and candid honesty reveal more humanity than hidden drama behind the show’s enduring bond.
