Several cities across the region are preparing ceremonies to honor Remembrance Day and pay tribute to the men and women who have served in the armed forces. Events are scheduled in Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford.
On November 11, most federal offices and services will be closed, including banks and postal services, as the nation marks the solemn occasion.
An event commemorating Indigenous Veterans’ Day will be held on Friday, November 7, at 11:30 a.m., at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King Street.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The ceremony at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by light refreshments and snacks inspired by Indigenous cuisine. The city advises guests to bring their own chairs as seating will be limited.
Hamilton’s annual garrison parade will step off at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, with a service beginning at 10:45 a.m. The procession, featuring local veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps, will start at John Foote V.C. N. and proceed south to Gore Park on King Street East, where the service will be held at Veteran’s Place.
Community events are also being organized in Burlington and Brantford to recognize the courage and sacrifices of those who served. These services invite residents to come together in remembrance and reflection.
