Renowned TV chef and author Rick Stein will visit Waterstones in Morpeth on Thursday, November 13, to sign copies of his latest book, Rick Stein’s Christmas. Caroline Dominey spoke with him about the book and what Christmas means personally to him.
The book was inspired by Stein’s wife, Sarah, who encouraged him to create a Christmas-themed cookbook. Being Australian, she cherishes the Christmas traditions in the UK. Rick reflects, "With Christmas, you often forget it until it returns, but once I started recalling recipes and memories, making this book was an easy decision."
"I think we all love Christmas in our heart, it’s something that matters to us in this slightly rainy island and it was a joy to do."
Rick emphasizes the festive foods that define Christmas, such as turkey, glazed ham, chutneys, jams, and mulled wine. He also expresses a deep fondness for Christmas music, notably the tradition of Christmas No. 1 singles and carol services, which feature significantly in his book.
"I’ve always loved carols and carol services. There are so many things that interest me, and, I suspect, other people, about Christmas."
Rick Stein’s Christmas celebration combines cherished recipes and festive music, capturing the spirit of the holiday as a meaningful and joyful time.
