Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian cricket team’s key pace bowler, was given one demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his 'plane' send-off gesture directed at Pakistan’s Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup 2025 final.
"Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required."
The incident occurred after Bumrah dismissed Rauf in the 18th over of the Pakistan innings and mimicked Rauf’s earlier 'crashing plane' gesture, which had sparked controversy due to its apparent reference to the military conflict between India and Pakistan during the Super 4 stage.
A separate investigation was held into India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh for an alleged misconduct during the Super 4 match against Pakistan. Match referee Andy Pycroft conducted the hearing.
"Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft: Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2."
The ICC took firm action to maintain sportsmanship and deter conduct that could fuel political tensions between the teams during the high-profile tournament.
The ICC disciplined Jasprit Bumrah with a demerit point for his contentious send-off during the Asia Cup final, while teammate Arshdeep Singh was cleared after a separate probe.
