The National Transport Authority (NTA) has been asked to assist in resolving ongoing public transport problems in Clondalkin following complaints raised at a recent community meeting. Residents have repeatedly faced inconveniences due to unreliable bus services.
Local authorities have requested the presence of an NTA representative in future meetings to address these concerns directly. Councillor Darragh Adelaide emphasized the widespread impact of the transport failures on the community.
“The 13 coming through Clondalkin was listed as one of the most cancelled buses in Dublin. These are issues that are affecting a lot of people, particularly older people who, if a bus is cancelled, they’re left there waiting in the cold. Same with people with disabilities, people with young kids, but also people trying to get to work.”
On Wednesday, October 15, the 13 bus route was cancelled 21 times, resulting in a cancellation rate of 13%. Most cancellations occurred near the start of the Grange Castle to Mountjoy Square route.
Councillor Eoin Ó Broin highlighted that the bus has occasionally skipped the Bawnogue area, which is currently under construction. This occurs as drivers try to compensate for delays and avoid fines imposed by the NTA.
“What can happen is that the bus skips Bawnogue in order to get back on track because when they’re late, they get fined by the NTA.”
Author’s summary: The repeated cancellations of the 13 bus in Clondalkin severely inconvenience vulnerable groups and commuters, underscoring urgent transport reliability issues needing NTA intervention.
