Beloved weather presenter Livinia Nixon, who launched her television career with the show Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, is preparing to move into a new phase after 20 years presenting the weather on Nine Network.
Although stepping down from her weeknight role, Nixon will continue to appear on Nine’s travel programs, Postcards and Getaway.
“I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she said with a laugh. “I’m looking forward to a breather.”
At 50, Nixon explained that her decision was motivated by a desire to spend more time with her family. Her youngest son, Ted, is beginning high school, joining his older brother Henry.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me,” she said. “When I discussed it with our boys, they said, ‘We’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum’.”
Among her many memorable live reports, Nixon recalled a segment at Healesville Sanctuary, where a green tree python coiled around her neck and tried to slither into her jacket.
“I’d never read the weather as quickly in my life,” she joked.
