Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett 'seriously' considering Senate run

Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett Seriously Considering Senate Run

Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic congresswoman from Texas, revealed last week that she is seriously considering a Senate campaign. Speaking with Dasha Burns on Politico’s The Conversation, Crockett emphasized her data-driven approach to the decision.

“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data. So I’m a data-driven person. I will tell you that I personally believe that Texas needs to do something different if they wanted different results. That’s just the bottom line.”

No Democrat has won a Texas Senate election since 1988. Incumbent Republican John Cornyn is seeking reelection next year for a fifth term. Crockett explained that she would decide on running at the last minute, highlighting the challenge of winning both the Democratic primary and the general election.

“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn.”

She also mentioned that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is heavily funding Cornyn’s primary campaign to ensure his victory. However, this claim could not be independently verified, and the NRSC did not respond to inquiries about its spending by the time of publication.

Key Points

Summary: Jasmine Crockett is carefully evaluating a Texas Senate run, facing tough odds against incumbent John Cornyn and a well-funded Republican campaign.
