Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett 'seriously' considering Senate run

Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett Considering Senate Bid

Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic congresswoman from Texas, revealed last week that she is seriously contemplating a run for the U.S. Senate.

“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” Crockett told Dasha Burns on Politico’s The Conversation. “So I’m a data-driven person. I will tell you that I personally believe that Texas needs to do something different if they wanted different results. That’s just the bottom line.”

No Democrat has won a Senate race in Texas since 1988. Incumbent Republican John Cornyn is seeking reelection next year for a fifth term.

“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn,” Crockett admitted.

She indicated her decision to run will be made late, acknowledging that whoever wins the Democratic primary must also succeed in the general election.

Crockett also claimed that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is investing heavily in Cornyn’s primary campaign to ensure his victory, although this could not be independently verified as the NRSC did not respond to inquiries by the article’s publication.
