Super Typhoon Fung-Wong is intensifying as it nears the eastern coast of the Philippines, expected to make landfall Sunday night. The storm covers a vast area, almost the size of the country itself.
Strong winds from Fung-Wong caused a hanging bridge in Camaligan, Camarines Sur to sway dangerously, as captured in videos shared by Richard Cecilio of DWIZ 95.1 South Luzon.
One fatality has been reported amid the storm's destructive path. According to the Philippines weather service:
"Fung-Wong has a 1,600-kilometre rain and wind band with winds of 185 kilometres per hour near the centre, and gusts up to 230 kph."
The northern and northeastern coasts are experiencing heavy flooding and relentless winds as the typhoon continues to batter Luzon.
Author's summary: Super Typhoon Fung-Wong, with winds up to 230 km/h, forces massive evacuations and causes severe damage across the Philippines as it nears landfall tonight.
