The tropical depression currently located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) continues moving west-northwest while maintaining its strength, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
PAGASA expects the weather disturbance to enter the PAR by late Friday or early Saturday, when it will be named Uwan, becoming the 21st tropical cyclone in the country this year.
The system is predicted to rapidly strengthen, potentially reaching super typhoon status before making landfall over Northern or Central Luzon early next week.
As early as Friday evening or Saturday morning, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may be raised over eastern Luzon and Samar Provinces to warn of strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The highest alert expected under the current forecast could reach Signal No., indicating severe weather conditions.
This tropical depression, soon to be named Uwan, is advancing toward the Philippines with increasing intensity, posing a serious threat to Northern and Central Luzon by early next week.
