Valley Welding Training Program Focuses on Underwater Work
The Refrigeration School and Commercial Divers International have partnered to offer an underwater welding training program in Goodyear.
Students in the southwest Valley are learning to weld major infrastructure underwater through this program.
“There is a natural partnership there. I mean, surface level welding … [is] essential for bridges and what have you,”
said Gus Velez, CDI chief administrative officer. He explained that this partnership could increase the number of certified workers, as the welding industry is expanding and more workers are needed.
According to Velez, even bridges built in water require underwater inspection to ensure they can stand the test of time.
