Brisbane Roar marked their first Isuzu UTE A-League match on the Sunshine Coast with a commanding 3-0 victory over Newcastle Jets, delighting a packed crowd at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when young defender Lucas Herrington lost his marker and headed in Georgios Vrakas’ accurate corner delivery, giving Roar a deserved lead.
Early in the second half, the Jets had a golden chance to equalize. Forward Will Dobson was sent through on goal but his lob over keeper Dean Bouzanis fell short, lacking both power and precision.
Brisbane seemed to double their advantage with 20 minutes remaining when substitute Henry Hore finished from close range, but the goal was disallowed due to an earlier offside on Michael Ruhs.
