Kevin Lankinen will start back-to-back games tonight against the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Arena. Meanwhile, Thatcher Demko remains a candidate to start on Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets.
Thatcher Demko skated Sunday morning, but Lankinen will take the net for a second consecutive game. Jiri Patera, recently recalled, will back up Lankinen against the high-powered Avalanche offense.
Tonight, Lankinen faces the challenge of stopping Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas, who have combined for 21 goals and 42 points. The Avalanche hold a 9-1-5 record and recently dominated the Edmonton Oilers 9-1 in Edmonton.
“Thatcher felt good, he had a good day. For me, it looks like he will (play) Tuesday, and I’ll deal with it later when you guys get mad at me if he doesn’t.” – Adam Foote
Coach Foote indicated Demko is being rested for the demanding schedule ahead, which includes a Tuesday game against Winnipeg followed by a hectic three-game road trip in four days starting Friday in Carolina.
Kevin Lankinen will start against the Avalanche, while Thatcher Demko is likely to start Tuesday, as the Canucks manage their goaltenders amid a tight and challenging schedule.
Author’s note: The Canucks are carefully rotating their goaltenders to keep them fresh for a packed and demanding stretch of games.
