Rod Stewart shares two children with Penny Lancaster, but when they first met in the 1990s, the father-of-eight was hesitant about having more kids. Penny, 54, recently reflected on their home life and the challenges they faced with their eldest son.
After Alastair was born, Rod named a tour after him — the Alastair Wallace Stewart Tour — arranging flights around the baby’s naps. Penny shared intimate details about caring for the infant on the road.
“Every afternoon at exactly 4pm he’d give a shrill scream that sounded as though he was dying.”
She described how the baby's colic was frightening, but music soothed him.
“In the end the only thing that would calm him was the sound of Rod’s Great American Songbook collection gently playing. I can only think that hearing it took Alastair back to the security of the womb, as I’d been in the studio to listen to Rod recording when I’d been pregnant.”
Penny recalled keeping Alastair's Moses basket by their bed during the tour, ensuring they were close during those difficult moments.
They recently celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary, marking a long-standing partnership built through family and music.
