Ian Leavers, Queensland's Cross-Border Commissioner, was found dead at his Mount Ommaney residence in Brisbane's south-west on Tuesday morning around 9:50 a.m. His sudden death is currently under investigation, with police treating the case as non-suspicious.
Leavers, aged 57, had a long-standing career in the Queensland Police, joining in 1989. He worked across multiple divisions including the criminal investigation branch and child investigation unit.
In his recent position, Ian Leavers focused on supporting cross-border communities by collaborating with local governments, businesses, and community groups.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli described Mr Leavers as "dedicated, principled, and driven to make a difference for this state."
Leavers was also seen speaking with the media outside the inquest into the Wieambilla shooting at the Brisbane Coroners Court on August 2, 2024.
