‘He loves his students’: How a Shawnee Heights football coach saved a tennis program

A Football Coach Saves the Day for Shawnee Heights Tennis

Two years ago, the Shawnee Heights girls tennis program was on the verge of being cut due to the lack of a coach.

A football coach with no prior tennis experience stepped in to save the program, changing everything for the team.

For Shelby Watson, a player on the team, simply being able to play for Shawnee Heights felt like a victory after the program's uncertain future.

"I got a few other girls to start like, 'Hey, we really need a coach or we're not going to have a season, and tennis (is) very important to me,'" Watson said.

Watson and her teammates had rallied to find a coach, and their efforts paid off when the football coach took on the role.

The team's story is one of perseverance and dedication, with the coach's unexpected involvement making all the difference.
