13 (!) murals are going up at once in downtown Ontario

O-Town Muralfest: 13 Murals in Downtown Ontario

Artists are painting on facades, back walls, and alleys for the first O-Town Muralfest, culminating Saturday with tours.

Columnist David Allen reports that Ontario is taking a unique approach to public art, with 13 murals going up at once, rather than the traditional one-at-a-time method.

“We have 13 murals going on,” organizer Mia Melle said. “We had 10, it’s expanded.”

The effort, called O-Town Walls Muralfest, has a $100,000 budget funded by corporate and civic donors. Thirteen painters were enlisted, with some coming from the East Coast. They were given creative freedom, with some restrictions, including the approval of concepts and the avoidance of religion and politics.

Author's summary: O-Town Muralfest brings 13 murals to downtown Ontario.
