To commemorate 100 years of movies, Liberty Hall will screen "Phantom of the Opera" with live piano accompaniment, revisiting its history as an opera house.
According to documentation, the building first opened as a movie theater in the 1924-1925 season. Earlier this year, Liberty Hall launched a series to mark its centennial, screening a different 1925 silent movie each month.
The 1925 black-and-white horror film, directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney and Mary Philbin, will be accompanied by live piano music, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
Liberty Hall's history as the Bowersock Opera House, which was renovated in 1882 and burned down in 1911, will be invoked during the screening.
The Spencer Research Library, housing the opera house's program collection, provides insight into the building's past.
