Reopening of Kildare Ukrainian Accommodation Criticized

A local councillor has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the decision to reopen the International Persons Accommodation Service (IPAS) Centre for Ukrainian refugees at Flood's Cross, Newhall, just outside Naas.

"Nobody in charge seems to know what they're doing. Could ye not get your act together? And you can quote me on that,"

said Cllr Bill Clear, criticizing the move. The centre, originally built to house up to 1,000 refugees, was closed and dismantled seven months ago but is now set to reopen for 350 new arrivals for a 90-day period.

Cllr Clear argued that the decision to reopen the centre is a

"complete and utter waste of money"
and suggested that it should have been kept open to accommodate essential workers, such as staff at Naas General Hospital who are in need of housing.

The Department of Justice has yet to provide a reason for the decision to reopen the centre.
