Trump Would Rather Let Birth Control Expire Than Give It to Africans as Aid

Trump Administration Allows Contraceptives to Expire

The Trump administration is permitting a stockpile of nearly $10 million worth of contraceptives to expire in a Belgian warehouse, despite requests from nonprofit organizations to deliver the aid to low-income women in sub-Saharan Africa.

The contraceptives, including IUDs, implants, and birth control pills, were originally intended for distribution by the U.S. Agency for International Development before it was dismantled by Trump.

The medication could provide pregnancy prevention to roughly 1.6 million women, according to an estimate from the Guttmacher Institute.

The State Department had announced plans to incinerate the contraceptives, with some becoming too old to deliver starting in December.

Author's summary: Trump lets $10 million in contraceptives expire.
