Chastity Bowick Assumes New Role as Executive Director of the Marsha P. Johnson Institute
Chastity Bowick, former executive director of the Transgender Emergency Fund of Massachusetts, has taken on the role of executive director of the Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI).
We have to have unity within community. We have to do this together.
Bowick replaces Elle Moxley, the institute's founder and first executive director. The MPJI offers fellowships, resources, and support for transgender people across the country, serving in the spirit of Marsha P. Johnson's legacy.
Bowick views the transition as a moment of both trans joy and necessary reflection, noting the "passing of the brick" from one Black transgender woman to another.
