The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has launched a docent-led tour series called "Visible and Vibrant" to celebrate LGBTQ+ artists.
According to Rasheed Newson, Board Chair of the One Institute,
LGBTQ history month is more important than ever in part because we find ourselves being erased from a lot of history, being minimized in our contributions taken out of the official record of things.
The tour series highlights the work of artists such as Frida Kahlo, who challenged traditional ideas of identity, beauty, and belonging through her bold art.
The "Visible and Vibrant" tour is part of the One Institute's Circa Queer History Festival, a countywide festival of performances, lectures, and art that takes place every October to celebrate LGBTQ+ history month.
This year's theme is Reclaiming Freedom, and the festival aims to promote awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ contributions and history.
