Environmental Disaster: Ethanol Spill in Tañon Strait

The city government of Bais, Negros Oriental has suspended tourism trips to the Sand Bar and dolphin-watching activities due to an ethanol spill from the Universal Robina Corporation.

The spill contaminated the city's North Bay, shores, and coastlines along Tañon Strait, between the islands of Negros and Cebu, after a 15-meter dike at the URC's distillery plant collapsed, leaking wastewater into the sea.

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)–Negros Island Region confirmed the incident on 24 October.

No statement from Universal Robina Corporation is available at this time.
