New Pilot Program for Behavioral Health Careers

A new initiative, CLIMB 2.0, aims to provide pathways to Kentucky high school students interested in behavioral health careers.

The program targets eight eastern Kentucky high schools to address the shortage of mental and behavioral health services in the region.

Collaboration and Goals

CLIMB 2.0 is a collaboration between the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, the Cabinet for Health and Family Service, and its Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities.

It stands for Career Ladders in Mental and Behavioral Health, focusing on providing career pathways to high school students.

“We've been looking at ways through fast term, short term certificates, to enable us to be able to really extend the service providers as much as we can in those areas.”

According to Leslie Sizemore, vice president for workforce and economic development, counties in eastern and western Kentucky have limited access to psychiatric help.

The program aims to address this issue by providing opportunities for students to pursue careers in behavioral health.
