Angelo Binaghi, the head of the Italian Tennis Federation, was contradicted after stating that Novak Djokovic would compete at the ATP Finals.
Binaghi told Italian media the 24-time Grand Slam champion had confirmed his participation in the ATP Finals starting November 9. The event gathers the top eight players from the past 52 weeks for a round-robin competition, split into two groups of four. The top two from each group advance to the knockout stage.
“We have confirmation that Djokovic will be in Turin,” Binaghi said to Rai Gr Parlamento radio.
Djokovic has rejected Binaghi's statement and has not committed to playing at the ATP Finals yet. Currently, he is competing at the Hellenic Championship in Athens. On Tuesday, Djokovic won his opening match against Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets.
The tournament takes place indoors on hardcourts at the OAKA Basketball Arena and is managed by Djokovic’s brother, Djordje.
“I don’t know where he (Binaghi) got that information from. Definitely not from me or my team.” – Novak Djokovic
Author's summary: Novak Djokovic has denied claims from the Italian Tennis Federation chief about his confirmed participation in the ATP Finals, remaining undecided while competing in Athens.
