After months of anticipation, Netflix has confirmed the future of its biggest movie to date, KPop Demon Hunters. Following its record-breaking debut, the hit animated musical co-produced by Sony and Netflix is officially getting a sequel.
Reports state that Sony, the film’s producer, and Netflix, its distributor, have agreed to move forward with a second installment. However, fans will have to wait — the sequel is not expected to arrive on the platform until 2029.
Released in June, the film quickly rose to become Netflix’s most-watched movie in history, accumulating 325 million views. It also achieved something rare for a Netflix feature by hitting theaters, earning $24.4 million globally through both traditional and “sing-along” screenings.
The movie’s success extended beyond screens. Its soundtrack topped the Billboard charts, with the hit single “Golden” reaching number one. Expanding its cultural footprint, Hasbro and Mattel have signed deals to produce dolls and action figures inspired by the film’s characters.
KPop Demon Hunters centers on the Korean pop group HUNTR/X, featuring:

The phenomenal success of KPop Demon Hunters has secured its future, with a sequel officially planned for 2029 after dominating streaming, charts, and theaters worldwide.
