Creation of the MVP Character
The idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, as revealed by Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member, in an interview with Conrad Thompson for The Insiders podcast.
Goldstein discussed how Dusty Rhodes would come up with gimmicks and characters for stars in developmental, citing MVP as a prime example:

MVP was in developmental at the time, with a rudimentary version of his character. Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted that it was during the time when the Eagles had Terrell Owens, which influenced the creation of the MVP character, including the full body suit and sports-styled presentation.
