The Evil Dead: A Terrifying Film
Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead is known for its graphic violence and sexual content, shocking audiences worldwide upon its release in 1981.
The film tells the story of five young people - Ashley (Ash) Williams, his sister Cheryl, his girlfriend Linda, their friend Scott, and Scott's girlfriend Shelly - who embark on a trip to a cabin in the woods.
Their discovery of the Necronomicon, aka the Book of the Dead, and a tape recorder in the cellar sets off a chain of events, as playing the recorder unwittingly frees a demonic entity called the Kandarian Demon, which possesses Cheryl and turns her into a Deadite.
Ultimately, everyone except for Ash turns into a Deadite, leaving him as the sole survivor of the bloody ordeal.
The film was hailed as a masterpiece by many, but its graphic content led to it being banned in several countries soon after its release.
