The 2026 World Club Challenge has been officially confirmed, marking a milestone for rugby league in Hull. Hull KR have pledged to host the most spectacular rugby event the city has ever experienced.
The clash between the treble-winning Hull KR and NRL champions Brisbane Broncos will take place on Thursday, February 19, at the MKM Stadium. It will be the first World Club Challenge ever staged in Hull.
Under coach Willie Peters, Hull KR claimed an extraordinary treble in 2025 — the League Leaders’ Shield, the Challenge Cup, and the Super League title. Across the globe, Michael Maguire’s Brisbane Broncos ended a 19-year championship drought by defeating the Melbourne Storm 26-22 in an unforgettable NRL Grand Final.
“With offers from around the world to host the game, we are delighted to bring the Betfred World Club Challenge home to Hull, allowing supporters, not just from the city but the whole region and beyond, the opportunity to see the world’s two best rugby league sides go head-to-head,”
said Hull KR chief executive Paul Lakin.
“With Round One of our title defence in the Super League, and a trip to Las Vegas for the ‘Battle of Yorkshire’ a week after the Betfred World Club Challenge, February is set to be the most exciting month in the club's illustrious history as we take the Robins to the global stage.”
Lakin emphasized the global exposure and momentum the events would bring to Hull KR and the sport as a whole.
