Ian Leavers, Queensland’s cross-border commissioner, has passed away at his home, leaving behind a lasting legacy of dedication to policing and the state. He was found around 9:50 a.m., and while his death is not considered suspicious, investigations continue.
“Leavers has been a strong voice for the challenges facing communities and businesses along the state’s borders during a critical stage of rebuilding following the impact of the COVID pandemic,” said Premier David Crisafulli.
“Ian earned the respect of Queenslanders for saying it how it was, and always standing up for the police service he loved. He was dedicated, principled, and driven to make a difference for this state.”

Leavers was appointed cross-border commissioner in October of the previous year, tasked with supporting border communities throughout Queensland. His appointment followed a long and distinguished career with the Queensland Police.
